The look of the Tudor North Flag is partially inspired by the nostalgic Tudor Ranger II of the 1970s – it brings back all the good memories with modern flavour. The North Flag represents many firsts for Tudor company: it’s equipped with the brand’s first in-house movement visible through its first display back. And it has a power reserve indicator, yet another first.
Tudor North Flag also promotes a completely new design, with a precise and technical case design that looks nothing like their contemporary heritage collection. But the North Flag is more than just a new look.
This exceptional watch is important as it represents a real turning point for the Tudor brand - it is the modern adventurer’s solid companion, beginning a new era in the brand’s rich history.
The dial on the North Flag is extremely legible. With a matte black colour and bright white markers and hands, there are no diversions to distract from reading the time. Adding to the character and style of the North Flag is Tudor’s careful use of vibrant yellow accents which adds a particular kind of discreet sportiness to the watch. It’s without a doubt a modern and solid watch that can be called a tool watch.
The power reserve indicator, has been both stylish and functional. The bezel, with its circular satin finishes, is composed of two elements that complement one another and fit perfectly together. Matt ceramic, visible on the side, and brushed steel on the upper face, integrate to strengthen the general technical feel conveyed by this model.
The winding crown follows the same logic; prominent to ensure good ergonomics, it is accentuated by its authentic form and Tudor logo in relief. Tudor North Flag is waterproof to 100 meters.
The North Flag brings together a unique design language and an in-house movement design marking Tudor’s excellence.
This begins with the choice of a case with integrated bracelet, a type of construction with a sophisticated overtone and a highly qualitative feel that requires particularly delicate modelling work in order to attain optimum ergonomics and ideal fluidity of lines. The entire case is done in a fine brushed finish, which adds class to the tool watch style. The design and finish of the case is impressive, with straight and precise edges all round. The hour markers consist of large Arabic numerals at 6, and 12 o’clock. All remaining hours are denoted with a simple rectangular baton.
A date window resides discretely at 3 o’clock. The dimensions are reasonable enough for great wearing comfort and an adaptability to every wrist size.
The North Flag is immediately recognizable as a modern Tudor watch. This watch is totally different from the rest of the collection that could have been seen as vintage inspired models. Large, bright white numerals, hour markers and hands stand out strongly against the matte black background, and the bright yellow seconds hand, power reserve indicator and chapter ring details add some personality to the mix.
And finally, the star of the show - if you flip the watch over you’ll find yourself looking through Tudor’s first ever display back to gaze upon their first ever in-house movement. Chronometer certified (COSC), silicon hairspring, 4 Hz beat-rate and variable inertia oscillator, this self-winding mechanical movement with bidirectional rotor system has a 70-hour power reserve, which is indicated on the dial.
