There are more than a handful different variations one can create for the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Lady-Datejust. The one we are introducing today is a prime example on just how much elegance, style and timeless, feminine beauty this piece is capable of showcasing.
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Lady-Datejust 28, as is its full and rather descriptive name, comes in a 28-millimeter-wide case and it is the only Rolex watch to carry the Lady-Datejust name –other Datejust models of feminine proportions, namely the Datejust 31, 34 and perhaps even the 36 are rather more simply called Datejust.
Still, even in its smallest variation, the Datejust makes for a stunningly beautiful timepiece, a timepiece that does it all. The variant we are looking at today is the Lady-Datejust 28 in Rolesor combination of Oystersteel and Rolex's own 18ct yellow gold, with a gem-set bezel and gem-set, mint green dial.
It is a constellation of genuinely special components, a coming together of parts that create a tasteful and timeless aesthetic – properties all fine ladies' watches should be in full possession of.
The case itself is Oystersteel, whereas the bezel is in 18ct yellow gold – on a Rolex watch a fluted or a gem-set bezel is always exclusively crafted from gold; never from steel. The crown is large enough to allow for comfortable use and is crafted from 18ct yellow gold, complementing the other gold accents and elements of the watch.
The bezel is set with a ribbon of brilliant-cut diamonds, painstakingly analyzed, checked, sorted and set in Rolex's own department specialized in handling precious gemstones. The same goes for the brilliant-cut diamonds, a total of 10, set in gold and applied on the dial. These complement the glamorous bezel as well as the three hands in 18ct yellow gold.
The dial itself is special not only for the gem-set indices, but also for its "mint green" color: that is Rolex's official term, one that is indeed an accurate representation of the dial's vibrant green-blue hues. Furthermore, the dial is vertically stripped and not only that, but further enhanced with a subtle sunburst finishing that adds an extra ray of light to the vertical pattern. Like all Datejust, the Lady-Datejust 28 features the date in a window at the 3 o'clock position, made easier to read by a cyclops magnification lens attached to the outside of the front crystal. The applied Rolex Crown at 12 o'clock, crafted from 18ct yellow gold, renders the dial complete.
The case is matched with a Jubilee five-link bracelet, with the smaller center links in 18ct yellow gold and the outer links in Oystersteel – hence creating the iconic Rolex Rolesor look.
Due to the small case size and the easily folding, ergonomic bracelet, the Lady-Datejust 28 makes for an easy-to-wear, comfortable and remarkably adaptable timepiece, fit for any occasion. The mint green dial is a special, rarely seen option on this piece and one that we have the privilege of having in our boutique in Budapest momentarily.
