Marking Over a Decade of TUDOR wins at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève
In early November of every year, members of the watch industry descend upon Geneva to take part in the spectacle known as the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG).
The purpose of the GPHG is to highlight the best watches from the past year in numerous categories and generally promote the craft of watchmaking around the globe by raising awareness of exceptional watches.
It’s often referred to as “the Oscars of watchmaking” for the jury-style nomination and award format, not to mention that pomp and ceremony of it all.
An academy of 827 members nominate the watches, and a jury of 30 make the final decision when it comes to the winners.
This year, TUDOR took home the award for Best Sports Watch with the Pelagos 39. The 2023 GPHG marks a special moment in TUDOR’s history, as the Pelagos 39 is the ninth watch to be awarded in an eleven-year period.
TUDOR has taken home awards in ’13, ’15, ’16, ’17, ’19, ’20, ’21, ’22, and now with the Pelagos 39, ’23. The Pelagos 39 is a sports watch imbued with the rich dive watch heritage of TUDOR, but also focuses on sophistication and functionality under the waves as well as an urban environment.
As part of the Pelagos line first released in 2012, the Pelagos 39 is the first in the Pelagos line to focus not only on underwater technical performance, but the versatility of a reduced form factor with a 39mm case in grade 2 Titanium.
Find out more about the Pelagos 39 below.
With its Pelagos 39 model, Tudor offers a versatile watch at the crossroads between the world of technical diving and urban sophistication.
Pelagos 39 is a compact and versatile, traditional mechanical divers' watch, with a touch of elegance created by the shine of the sunray satin finishes on its dial and the insert on the bezel.
Featuring grade 2 titanium, luminescent ceramic composite monobloc hour markers, a rapid adjustment system for the clasp and a diver’s extension, the Pelagos 39 model combines TUDOR’s professional dive watch heritage with the versatility of a 39-millimetre case and the striking radiance of sunray satin finishes on its bezel and dial.
The result is a sports watch that boasts both cutting-edge watchmaking technology and a chic aesthetic, as at ease in the city as on the shore.
The Pelagos 39 model is equipped with Manufacture Calibre MT5400. Its construction has been designed to ensure robustness, longevity, reliability and precision due to its variable inertia balance, which is held in place by a sturdy traversing bridge with two points of fixation.
Thanks to this balance and the non-magnetic silicon balance spring, Manufacture Calibre MT5400 has been certified as a chronometer by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), with its performance going beyond the standards set by this independent institute. In fact, where COSC allows an average variation in the daily running of a watch of between -4 and +6 seconds in relation to absolute time in a single movement, TUDOR insists on between -2 and +4 seconds’ variation in its running when it is completely assembled. Another notable feature is that the power reserve of Manufacture Calibre MT5400 is ”weekend-proof”, about 70 hours, which enables the wearer to take the watch off on a Friday evening and put it back on again on Monday morning without having to wind it.
Choose your own adventure. Tudor Pelagos 39 is a versatile watch designed to be used however you want – dive, drive, workout, go out. Presented for the first time in a 39 mm dial size, it will fit both your daringness and your elegance.
Easy to use, requiring no tools and offering five positions, Tudor ”T-fit” clasp system allows the wearer to carry out a fine, instant adjustment of the total length of the bracelet along an adjustment window of 8 millimetres.
Every TUDOR watch, including the Black Bay, is assembled and fully tested to TUDOR’s superior standards at the new TUDOR Manufacture located in the Le Locle, Switzerland.
This new state-of-the-art facility, bringing together the know-how of watchmakers with the best in production management and automated testing systems, was completed in 2021 after three years of construction. All decked out in TUDOR red, the Manufacture spans over four levels totaling more than 5,500 square meters and is physically and visually connected to the neighboring Kenissi Manufacture, the TUDOR movement production facility founded in 2016.
With Kenissi and a network of TUDOR-owned affiliates, the brand has been able to integrate the development and production of high-performance mechanical calibers. As a consequence, TUDOR now fully masters the manufacturing of strategic components and can guarantee their quality.
